You’re all probably screaming away at your screens – “Esin, it’s a chain restaurant”. But, you know what, I don’t mind featuring chains, because they’re often places we can rely on when you’ve spent all your spontaneity that day; which is what happened to me.
After having a lovely walk down Southbank, I came across Clink Street – for those of you that care, this is one of my favourite streets in London. We were able to grab a seat outside, and still enjoy the sunshine whilst relaxing. Bill’s for me is a like a long lost friend I forget about, until I come across one.
I decided to order the following things:
- Spiced tortilla chips, served with tzatziki, guacamole and salsa
- Bill’s chicken and chorizo served in a toasted sesame seed bun, with tomato, red onion, gem lettuce and avocado mayo, skin on fries on the side
- Warm mini cinnamon doughnuts, with fresh strawberries and warm chocolate dipping sauce
The tortilla chips were ridiculously moreish, and came in a great portion size – one thing to note though is the sauce to portion size is slightly small. Or perhaps my boyfriend and I are just sauce sharing fiends. The tortillas is a very simple idea, but it’s very easy to get it wrong; they were fresh and crispy, with beautiful air bubbles in them. The tzatziki was definitely my favourite sauce, unfortunately the guacamole was a bit flat and the salsa tasted like one out of a cheap Old El Paso packet.
I decided to go for a different main than usual, and opted for the chicken and chorizo burger. The chicken was a plentiful portion and was beautifully cooked; you kind of expect it to be soft yet a little crispy, which it was. The chorizo was also well cooked, although it did have a slight odd taste to it, it didn’t quite have the kick that I’m used to. The chips were literally moreish, and I wish I ordered some more. I was slightly let down by the chorizo, but it was still a great main meal. One thing to note on a side note is not every olive is born to be warmed – I love olives, pretty much every kind, but that green one warmed up was vile.
Obviously no meal would be complete without desert, which I generally don’t opt for, but I was feeling the sunshine so decided to order some of their warm cinnamon doughnuts. I was expecting them to be a lot smaller than they were, they were still a big mouthful! But the great thing is you get about 5ish which is just the perfect amount. They were soft and moist, and had just the right amount of cinnamon over them; add that to the melted chocolate sauce and you’re in heaven. The only thing that I felt disappointed with, is the fact that I was promised “fresh strawberries” and had one dried up strawberry cut in half. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be ordering this again, but where were the strawberries?
Overall a great experience as usual, amazing and quick service as usual, just slightly let down by some of the details. But like a long lost friend, I’ll see you in a couple of months Bill.
