The Old Aldwych Hotel offers a delicious afternoon tea at the Indigo Restaurant, tailored towards Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book – Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. The highlight of the experience are the array of sweet treats – from colouful home-made candy floss to chocolate caramel milkshakes and golden dusted chocolate eggs filled with creamy cheesecake and mango topping. The delectable treats are extremely well presented and certainly offers good eye candy! My favourites amongst the savoury treats are the Heritage tomato tart and leek and stilton quiche. The best part about this afternoon tea is that you’ll be offered seconds (though this probably won’t be necessary).
As part of the afternoon tea, diners get to select from a selection of award-winning teas ranging from the Jewelled Apple – black tea with wild strawberry leaves, caramel and real apple pieces – and the Queen of Berries – a fruity black tea with ripe rasberries, strawberries and blackcurrants.
Charlie & the Chocolate Factory Inspired Afternoon Tea offers a fun and playful twist for those looking for something a little less traditional. I would have hoped for a better balance between the sweet and savoury treats, being more of a savoury type of person. For those with a sweet tooth, you’ll be spoilt for choice. You might be interested in reading about another popular afternoon tea in London – MadHatter’s Afternoon Tea at the Sanderson Hotel, which was also quite spectacular in its own right.
