“If you cook well, then you are cooking like mamma used to cook. But if you cook really well, then you’re cooking like grandma used to cook!”

Alvaro Maccioni, Owner of La Famiglia –

It’s about time I wrote a review of my favourite Italian restaurant in London. If you’ve yet to visit, you’ve got to add this to your bucket list. La Famiglia, as the name suggests, is a family run restaurant offering the classics one would expect from any Italian household. What I love about this place is that I somehow feel as though I’ve landed in Tuscany almost instantaneously. Located at the end of Kings Road, this unsuspecting gem of a place is by far, the best Italian restaurant in London.

Standout starters are the Insalata di Polpi e Calamari – a deliciously warm octopus and squid salad, tossed in extra virgin olive oil and lemon juice – and the Prosciutto Toscano e Melone which comprises of freshly cured Tuscan ham accompanied with slices of melon. If you’re into your olive oil, you’ll be pleased to know that the ‘olio extra vergine di olivia’ is brought in directly from Maccioni’s own private olive groves in Italy.

Though the menu offers a great selection of fish and meat dishes, I’m personally slightly biased when it comes to carnivorous meals versus a good old pasta dish and would always opt for the latter. Having said that, the pasta at La Famiglia is simply divine! Must haves are the Linguine con L’Aragosta – served with half of a fresh lobster and garnished with a tomato and garlic sauce – and the Spaghetti alla Scogliera if you fancy a taste of the ocean. Finally, be prepared for an array of delicious desserts displayed on a rolling trolley that gets brought over to every table towards the end of the evening. You’ll be spoilt for choice!

Once you’ve been introduced to the world of La Famiglia, you’ll be sure to come back for more. Simple, truthful and affordable meals is what everyone looks forward to at the end of the day – it really is that simple! You might be interested in reading a related post of L’anima, for a more refined option in the City.
