Maybe It’s Because…you have nothing planned for this weekend, never fear the Maybe team is here to save the day; before I get going on this week’s choices, did any of you guys get a chance to attend any of the events from last week? If so, please share your stories/pictures with us by tagging us using #maybeldner. But, lets not get too sidetracked, because this week is even better than last – don’t say that I don’t spoil you.
So, I don’t know how many of you are aware that there’s actually an island in Twickenham – it’s called Eel Pie Island, and it’s situated on the Thames. This cool little island plays home to not only a nature reserve, a boatyard, but also 26 artists and their studios; luckily for you, this weekend the island is open to the public from 11:00am to 18:00pm. This intimate island is only accessible via a small footbridge, so why not turn up and take in the beautiful natural sights, but also go and look at your own “rural” art gallery. Fabulous – check out the artists before hand, here and find the island below:
Now, if you’re feeling severely depressed about not getting Glastonbury tickets this year – fear not, I have another festival a little closer to home that should brighten up your mood; Holi Festival of Colours. Last year I was lucky enough to grab tickets to this festival, which took place at Battersea power station, now it’s been upscaled to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with huge names such as Feed Me and Jack Beats. This festival sees yourself dancing along to the music, whilst absolutely drowning yourself and others in powdered paint – it makes for a great day as long as you have some sort of protective eyewear. Be warned though, it gets everywhere…and I mean…everywhere…grab yourself the last of the tickets for Sunday from their site, here.
My favourite sense; taste. This time I’ll be featuring the likes of the Model Market, brought to you by Street Feast, but located in Lewisham. If you love food, and you’ve heard of the likes of Breddos, Yum Bun, and SmokeStak making the rounds on Twitter – then look no further. Enjoy great food, drinks (there is a rum bar!), and music in a wonderfully authentic 1950’s indoor/outdoor market. Take a look for yourselves, here – find the market here every Friday and Saturday from 18:00pm-01:00am:
